How to Enable RSS Auto Discovery in Blogger (Blogspot) Blog ?

We all understand the importance of feeds for our blogs and whenever we talk about feeds, RSS is the first name which strikes our mind. As everyone knows about it, there is no need to go for a description but for newbie’s I want to describe it briefly.

RSS- RSS is a web feed format which is used to publish frequently updated work such as blog entries, news headlines etc. it benefits its publishers in many ways such as delivering their latest posts automatically to their readers. It benefits readers by providing latest contents from their different favorite websites at one place. There are basically two ways by which readers can subscribe to a blog’s feed, one is by entering their feed and subscribing via email and the other is by using browser feed icon. Feeds can be read by using web based or desktop based software’s popularly known as RSS reader, feed reader or Aggregator.

Why one should turn on RSS auto discovery ?

Auto discovery of your feeds is an important factor which can affect your blogging badly. Most of the Blogger blogs didn’t posses this feature. RSS auto discovery is an important feature which makes it possible for browsers and other software’s to find a site’s RSS feed automatically. It’s the best way to inform users that a website offers syndication feed. When RSS auto discovery is enabled in our blog, browsers will detect it automatically during browsing and makes it easy for users to subscribe. Not only that many top blog directories uses RSS auto discovery for finding feeds, if it is not enabled in your blog, definitely they will decline your blog submission. Blogcatalog is one of them which use this feature, so even if your blog has good number of quality contents but non discoverable feeds they will decline your submission, whenever this issue occurs many of us have doubts on our content quality and number of contents but the root cause is your non discoverable feeds. Mine blog is also declined two times by them then I noticed this auto discovery and when I enabled it, they approved me with the same contents which I had earlier.

How to turn on RSS auto discovery in Blogger (Blogspot) blog ?

      

          (1)   Go to your blog’s dashboard.

          (2)   Go to ‘Template’ and then click on ‘Edit HTML’.

          (3)   Click inside your code and then press ctrl+f for search box.

          (4)   Search for </head> tag.

          (5)   Just paste the below code above </head> tag.

   <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml"

          (6)   Replace red text with your feed title.

          (7)   Replace blue text with your domain. URL.

          (8)   Save your template and it’s done.

Now you have successfully enabled RSS auto discovery on your blog.
