How to Add 'CNAME' And 'A' Records in Bigrock's DNS ?

Adding custom domain to our blog gives it a professional look, besides it there are many other benefits of adding custom domain early, which can be discussed later. For adding custom domain to our blog, we have to add some information which is professionally called ‘Records’ in our Domain Registrar’s DNS Management. I have already written a step by guide on
Today’s article is for all those bloggers who have purchased their domains from ‘Bigrock’ as it is India’s biggest service provider. I have used some other registrar’s also but they charged extra amount for their DNS Management which is provided free of cost in Bigrock.

CNAME records are used to point or we can say redirect our custom domain to our original blog address. Suppose, when someone types your domain address www.abc.com, here comes the role of these CNAME records, they will point or redirect www.abc.com to abc.subdomain.com, opening your blog. (subdomain= blogspot or wordpress or something else).

Adding CNAME Records in Bigrock DNS settings.

   (1)   Go to Bigrock.in and login with your Email and Password.

   (2)   Click on your Domain name, you will land on a page where you can find different settings for your domain.

   (3)   Go to DNS management which is on your right sidebar.

(4)   Now click on ‘Manage DNS’ tab.

  (5)   Click on CNAME records and then “Add CNAME Record”.

   (6)   Fill your ‘Host Name’ and ‘Value’ which is provided by your blog, now click on save.

Adding A Records.

   (1)   Go to “A Records” under your DNS Management tool and click on “Add A Record”.

(2)   ‘A’ records are nothing but some IP addresses.

   (3)   Type ‘A’ records which are provided by your blog in “Destination IP” and leave “Host Name” as blank.

   (4)   Add each record one by one and save it.

Similarly you can add other records also.

Update your blog Settings.

   (1)   Try adding your custom domain, if it again shows error; leave it for some hours to update your DNS settings.

   (2)   Add it again after some hours and it’s done, now your blog have your own professional domain name.
