What is Backlink ?

Friends today i’ll try to make you understand what actually a backlink is ? but in simple words. So, Let’s start.

Whenever we hover over internet for searching some SEO tips n tricks or reading ‘blogging’ and ‘how to blog article’ we always come to certain words which is very confusing when some pro or part time bloggers talk about Backlinks, Link juice, How to build backlinks etc. So first we have to understand about Backlinks, then their importance and finally how to build them. So, todays article will focuses only on definations and understanding of Backlinks.

Brief Description

Backlinks- In one sentence ‘Backlinks’ are defined as incoming links to our blog(website) or webpage from other websites or blogs. When someone read your article and if he liked the same and
produced a content related to the same topic on their blog, they links back that content to your webpage, that’s called a backlink. Still confused, Let’s take an example suppose Mr. A writes a post in his blog about Backlinks, When Mr. B goes through that article, founds good and publishes a content related to Backlinks on his own blog, giving the link of Mr. A post. Understand, not clear yet, continue reading……

Let’s see what Wikipedia says about Backlinks.

Backlinks, also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links, are incoming links to a website or web page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node.

Inbound links were originally important (prior to the emergence of search engines) as a primary means of web navigation; today, their significance lies in search engine optimization (SEO). The number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (for example, this is used by Google to determine the Page rank of a webpage). Outside of SEO, the backlinks of a webpage may be of significant personal, cultural or semantic interest: they indicate who is paying attention to that page. (Source- Wikipedia).

In the above definition of Backlinks, which is taken from Wikipedia you’ll find that I have written source i.e Wikipedia the highlighted part is called a backlink for Wikipedia as when you click it, you’ll leave my blog and jump to Wikipedia’s backlink page. Not only this link, if some no website publishes links of my posts or blog, they all are served as backlinks for me as they directs their visitors to my blog.

As we use hyperlinks in office files to link other files, the same way we use hyperlinks to link other website.

Backlinks are of much importance as they are used for faster indexing of web pages, high PR rankings, driving traffic and much more and how they are build, that i’ll explain in my next article.

Hoping, your backlink confusions are now clear.

Any doubt, please comment.
